Our “Social Justice Links” section includes links to organizations that produce materials, resources, campaigns, training workshops, etc. that are relevant for systemic community development work. Organizations focusing on individual advocacy and casework are not a focus of the OPICCO website and are not included in the “Social Justice Links” section.

Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario (ACTO)

ACTO is a province-wide community legal clinic with a mandate to undertake legal and law reform advocacy with the goal of broadening the legal rights of low-income persons in respect of their need for adequate and affordable housing. 

Campaign 2000

A cross-Canada public education movement to build Canadian awareness and support for the 1989 all-party House of Commons resolution to end child poverty in Canada by the year 2000.

Canada Without Poverty - CWP

A non-profit, non-partisan organisation that represents the interests of low-income Canadians.

Canadian Housing and Renewal Association - CHRA

A national non-profit organisation representing those who manage and deliver housing programs in communities across Canada. Their mission is to promote access to adequate and affordable housing by influencing housing policies and programs across the country.

Centraide Québec

A joint commitment in the fight against the poverty and its consequences; C'est un engagement solidaire dans la lutte contre la pauvreté et ses conséquences.

Centre for Equal Rights in Accommodation - CERA

Promotes human rights in housing and works to remove the barriers that keep disadvantaged individuals and families from accessing and retaining the housing they need.

Centre for Studies in Social Justice

This University of Windsor department has links to research and information on a wide range of social justice issues and produces a twice yearly journal on Studies in Social Justice.

Centre for Social Justice - CSJ

An advocacy organisation that seeks to strengthen the struggle for social justice.

Charter Committee on Poverty Issues - CCPI

A national coalition created to bring together low-income activists and poverty law advocates for the purpose of assisting poor people in Canada to secure and assert their rights.

Coop Housing Federation of Canada

The Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada (CHF Canada) is the organized voice of the Canadian co-operative housing movement. They exist to unite, represent and serve the community of housing co-operatives across Canada and member organizations that support their operation and development.

Court Challenges Program of Canada

A national non-profit organization providing financial assistance for important court cases that advance language and equality rights guaranteed under Canada's Constitution.

DAWN Ontario: DisAbled Women's Network Ontario

A volunteer-driven, feminist organization promoting social and economic justice, gender equality, human rights and the advancement of equality rights of disAbled women through education, research, advocacy, coalition-building, resource development, and information and communication technology. DAWN's central focus is on virtual activism in anti-poverty movement.

Democracy Watch

Works with Canadian citizens and organizations in pushing Canadian governments to empower Canadians in their roles as voters, citizens, taxpayers, consumers and shareholders. Their aim is to help reform Canadian government and business institutions to bring them into line with the realities of a modern, working democracy.

Interfaith Social Assistance Reform Coalition - ISARC

A coalition of faith groups working on issues of poverty, hunger and homelessness in Ontario.

Justice for Girls (JFG)

A non-profit organisation promoting support, justice and equality for low-income and street-involved teenage girls who have experienced violence.

KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives

KAIROS unites Canadian churches and religious organizations to advocate for social change.

LIFT - Low Income Families Together

A community based organisation located in Toronto, which speaks out on issues of concern to low income people in Ontario and develops innovative educational and economic programs to serve that community.

National Council of Welfare - NCW

A citizens' advisory body to the Minister of Human Resources Development Canada on matters of concern to low-income Canadians.

North Bay Network for Social Action - NNSA

A coalition of individuals and community organizations in North Bay who have united to promote social and economic justice in the community, by increasing solidarity and the sharing of information and strategies.

Older Women's Network - OWN

Works to achieve a caring society in which older women have the opportunity to live in security and with dignity; to participate in the choices affecting their lives; to give mutual support and share creative interests and activities; and to realize their potential. (Toronto, Hamilton and Peterborough)

Ontarians With Disabilities (ODA) Act Committee

A voluntary coalition of individuals and community organizations who have united to secure the passage in Ontario of a new law which would achieve a barrier-free society for persons with disabilities.

Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care - OCBCC

An organization with a mandate to advocate for the development of high quality, non-profit childcare services in the province of Ontario.

Ontario Coalition against Poverty - OCAP

A direct-action anti-poverty organization based in Toronto. OCAP mounts campaigns against regressive government policies as they affect poor and working people. Alsp provide direct-action advocacy for individuals against eviction, termination of welfare benefits, and deportation.

Ontario Coalition for Social Justice - OCSJ

A coalition of provincial and national groups promoting social and economic justice in Ontario.

Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants - OCASI

OCASI acts as a collective voice for immigrant-serving agencies and to coordinate response to shared needs and concerns. Its membership is comprised of more than 160 community-based organizations in the province of Ontario.

ODSP Action Coalition

A Coalition of legal clinic, agencies, and interested persons wanting to bring about change to the Ontario Disabilty Support Program legislation, policies and procedures.

Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association

ONPHA unites 770 non-profit organizations providing housing in 220 communities across Ontario. Our members include municipal and private non-profits of all sizes, with all types of funding.

An internet site for advocates, people on welfare, and community groups and individuals involved in anti-poverty work.

Psychiatric Patient Advocate Office (PPAO)

An Ontario-wide mental health advocacy group whose mission is to protect the legal and civil rights of patients in Ontario psychiatric hospitals, general hospital mental health units, or who are being considered for community treatment orders.

A national charity dedicated to long-term solutions to homelessness

TDRC - Toronto Disaster Relief Committee

Advocates for housing with all three levels of government. It produces a newsletter, position papers and press releases, and holds monthly meetings.
